When the Health Information for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act was enacted as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to promote the adoption of health information technology and in particular, the use of certified electronic health records (EHRs), MedEvolve immediately embarked upon the project of gaining accreditation for their EHR product.
As the HITECH Act enabled eligible health care professionals such as physicians to qualify for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement payments, MedEvolve understood the importance of certification not only for their company and product but for their customers as well.
Scott Mangum, the Director of Product Development, explains the importance of achieving the meaningful use certification: "Meaningful use certification validates that our EHR software can help physicians take part in the national push for EHR adoption. It ensures that current and future customers can leverage our software to not only make significant improvements in their workflow and patient care but to also achieve meaningful use and qualify for incentive payments."

One of the largest projects involved in the certification criteria was the creation of the Continuity of Care Document (CCD), which is an XML-based markup standard used to specify the encoding, structure and semantics for the exchange of patient clinical information.
Upon review of what the CCD implementation entailed and how the document was structured, MedEvolve turned to iNTERFACEWARE, their integration partner of nearly a decade, for professional assistance.

What was expected to be one of the more difficult projects on the road to certification for meaningful use became one of the easiest thanks to the use of Iguana 5, the latest version of iNTERFACEWARE's integration engine.
MedEvolve has been using iNTERFACEWARE for 8 years to save countless hours of development time and effort, enabling their staff to focus their efforts on other areas of product development. The CCD implementation project was no different.
Mangum describes the project: "Iguana 5 took a project that would have taken us months and months and turned it into a project that only took weeks to complete from start to finish. We were able to spend our time elsewhere as Iguana 5 and the iNTERFACEWARE team took a lot of the burden off of us."
The quick completion of this project speaks to the ease of use of Iguana 5. Lead developer, Mark Knight was new to Iguana 5 and was exceptionally pleased by not only the capabilities of the integration engine but also the shallow learning curve.
Knight commented: "The use of Iguana in this process has been invaluable along with the iNTERFACEWARE team's helpful and constant contact. I honestly had never even used Lua (Iguana 5's scripting language) before using Iguana and found that working with Lua and the Iguana IDE was effortless.
