Chameleon: HL7 Messaging Toolkit

Chameleon - HL7 Simulator / HL7 Listener

Diagnostic Tools: HL7 Simulator

The HL7 Simulator is a helpful utility used for simulating a live feed of HL7 messages. It functions like a simple HL7 TCP/IP client.

What Does it Do?

The HL7 Simulator uses a text file as its input. Messages from the text file are replayed as a client TCP/IP program using the LLP protocol. This is a highly valuable tool when it comes to testing an inbound interface.

How Does it Work?

The HL7 Simulator reads each message from the log file and attempts to send it to the port number specified on the form. As it receives an ACKnowledgment message from the receiver, it will send the next message in the input file as long as the applicable option has been checked.

Diagnostic Tools: HL7 Listener

The HL7 Listener is a useful utility that functions like a simple HL7 server. It uses the TCP/IP protocol to listen for messages on a port number that you specify.

What Does it Do?

The HL7 Listener was designed to make it easy to listen for and record a stream of messages from an HL7 server. Once the messages are received they are logged in a text file and an ACKnowledgement receipt is sent.

The HL7 Listener is very helpful when it comes to collecting sample/test data to build a new incoming interface or when testing an existing outbound interface.

How Does it Work?

A stream of sample HL7 data is sent to the HL7 Listener. Each message is ACKnowledged by the Listener and logged into the applicable message log file.
