Configuring the Channel Level Details

Below is an outline of the details common to all channels, regardless of the components used. Understanding each of these details is important. Note that any fields marked with an * are mandatory.

Why Does Iguana Require a Database?

Every Iguana channel must be associated with a database. This is because database tables are used to store channel log data. If a database source or destination component is used, Iguana will always use the database specified for the channel to retrieve/store the required data. Typically, your database will contain one set of tables for each channel.

iNTERFACEWARE recommends that you use one database server per Iguana instance.

Channel Configuration Details

Channel Parameter	Description
Channel name*	Name used to identify the channel on the dashboard and in the logs.
Database API*	API you want Iguana to use to communicate with your database.
Data source*	Name of the database or data source that this channel is going to communicate with. For more information, see Setting Up a New ODBC Datasource for Iguana.
Database username	Database username for this channel to use. Note that this is required if your data source uses username/password authentication.
Database password	Database password for this channel to use. Note that this is required if your data source uses username/password authentication.
Number of database reconnection attempts	Number of times you want Iguana to try and reconnect to a database during channel startup if an initial connection could not be made. 0 means no additional attempts are made after the initial connect attempt. Setting this value to 1 or more means that the channel will attempt to reconnect the specified number of times before displaying an error and stopping. -1 means Iguana will try to reconnect an unlimited number of times, meaning the channel will attempt to connect forever.
Reconnection interval	Number of milliseconds between reconnection attempts. The value to set for the Reconnection interval depends on your situation. If the Number of database reconnection attempts is -1, this setting will determine how responsive your channel will be after a connection has been recovered, which means this value should not be too high. However, it is also important to note that each failed connection will add a log to the error logs, meaning this number should not be too low, as the error logs will quickly fill up. Typically, this value is set to 10,000 ms (10 seconds). Try performing some testing to determine the best value for your situation.
Start automatically	If checked, the channel will start up whenever the Iguana service is started.
Send email on error	If checked, any errors that occur on the channel will be immediately emailed to a list of recipients using a specified SMTP server. To learn how to change the email server settings, see Configuring the Email Server Settings. Note that the Send email on error option will be disabled until you configure the email server settings from the Advanced tab.
Automatically purge success logs older than	Specify when success logs are stale and can be deleted. If this value is 0, then success logs will never be automatically purged.
