Composite Properties

Composites are made up of fields. Each composite field has the following properties:

ColumnPurpose
Field nameName of the field in the composite.
Data typeEither basic data type or other composite. Basic data types can be:
  • String;
  • Integer;
  • Double; or
  • Any of the Date Time formats defined in the VMD file.
RequiredIs the field required (i.e. non-optional). When parsing a message, this property is only applicable when Strict Grammar Checking is checked in the Misc tab of the Options window.
Any LengthIf checked, the field can be any length.
MaxThe maximum length of the field, if Any Length is unchecked.

Recursive references from composite to itself are not allowed. For example, a composite such as XAD cannot have the same composite (XAD) as one of its sub-composites.
