Configuring Iguana to Use a Remote MySQL Database

Iguana allows you to easily send and write messages to a database residing on a different server. This enables you to run Iguana on one machine and write to another.


	This example only shows you how to configure Iguana to use a remote database using the LLP Listener as the source and a Database as the destination. However, the general solution objective applies to any type of configuration.

To configure Iguana to use a remote database:

Open Iguana, and click the Dashboard tab.
Click the Add Channel button. The Add Channel screen appears as shown below.

Selecting the Channel Components

Select LLP Listener as the Source and To Database as the Destination.
Click Configure Channel.
In the Channel name field, specify the name of the channel you want to configure.
In the Database API field, specify the database you want to use (e.g. MySQL).
In the Data source field, specify the database name on the remote machine, server or ip address that you want to use. The format should be as follows:

database_name@machine_name (e.g. test@production_machine)

database_name@server_name
database_name@ip_address

In the Database username and Database password fields, type in the username and password required for access to the database. This would have been set by the database administrator. In some cases these two fields may be left blank.

Configuring the Channel Settings

Under Destination: To Database, specify the Full parser VMD path. This VMD file will be used to parse the HL7 messages received from the source component. It will also be used to determine what data to map out of these messages and what database tables to map the selected data to.
Under Source: LLP Listener, specify the ACK and NACK VMD Paths (e.g. autoack.vmd and autonack.vmd).
Specify the Port you want to listen on for LLP encoded HL7 messages.


	Ensure that the port is not being used by another application; otherwise, you will receive an error on connection.

Configuring the Channel Components

Click the Add Channel button to add the channel to the dashboard.
Click Export Database Tables.
Check the Channel Log Tables and Destination Data Tables options, and click Export Tables. The Export Tables Preview window appears.
Click Confirm Table Export to complete the process. The tables are successfully exported to the remote machine's database API.


	If you export destination data tables that already exist, the existing tables will be dropped and new ones will be created. This may lead to data loss.

Now you can easily use Iguana to write to a database on a remote machine or server.
