Step 3 - Selecting a Design Option

Once you have made the changes to the VMD file and have reviewed the code for the generated application, the next step is to decide what method you want to use to switch between configurations. You have a few choices, but for the purposes of this tutorial, you will use design option 2:

Option	Design Choice	Explanation
1	Use one engine per configuration to parse the messages.	This method would be useful for parsing messages on two different ports. One potential drawback is that this option requires more memory and takes longer to load. For more information, see Appendix: Using One Engine Per Configuration.
2	Use one engine to parse both types of messages. You would have to use the sorting engine algorithm to automatically switch configurations whenever a message comes in.	This method involves the least amount of work. You would have to create a new VMD file with two messages defined with two separate identities (i.e. one for ORM-O01 and one for SIU-S12) - this VMD file would be used for the sorting engine algorithm and the other VMD file you made in step 1 would be used for parsing the HL7 messages.
