Examining the Sample Message and Creating a Message Definition

Just as you did in the previous steps, the first few steps when setting up a new message are to:

• Inspect the message you would expect to parse using the Message Browser, and
• Create a new message definition based on the sample message provided.

To examine the sample message:

• Open the Message Browser in Chameleon.
• Copy and paste the following sample message into the top pane of the Message Browser.

You will notice that the there is a new segment at the end of the message called the MRG segment. Since this segment is going to contain information that you are going to want to map into your database, you need to import the segment into your Workspace.

• Click Workspace > Import Segments From Library to import the MRG segment from the library.
• Choose the same HL7 library as you did before, and select the MRG segment from the list that follows.
• Create a new message called PatientMerge, and set up its identity as illustrated below:
