Database to HL7

	Before beginning this tutorial, it is important to read the previous chapters of this manual so that you will have a better understanding of how Chameleon and Iguana relate to one another.

In this tutorial, you will step through the process of setting up an Iguana channel that will do the following:

• Extract data from tables in a database, and
• Send HL7 messages out across the network based on this data.

LLP is the standard way of transmitting HL7 messages over a network. As such, you will be creating a connection that has a From Database component as the source and an LLP Client component as the destination.

The objective of this tutorial for Iguana is to get patient demographics from the database and output these demographics as HL7 messages. These HL7 messages will then be sent across the LLP over a TCP/IP connection to a target host.

	Although this section gives a complete example of how to use Chameleon to set up a VMD file, it does not demonstrate the complete capability of Chameleon to deal with generating HL7 messages. To get a more complete picture of Chameleon's capabilities (and how you can use them) it is important to read through the entire Chameleon Manual.
