Importing Message Definitions From the Library

Using the Message Library, you can import a pre-defined message definition from any supported HL7 library, or even from a local VMD file. Chameleon is shipped with all the official definitions of HL7 from version 2.1 and higher. When you import a pre-defined message definition, the applicable segments, composites and segment grammar are automatically imported into your VMD file.

To import a pre-defined message definition from the message library:

• Click Workspace > Import Message Definition From Library. The Import Message Definition From Library window appears, as shown below.

• In the Name field, type the name of your new message and click Next.
• Select one of two options: (1) Import message from a library, or (2) Import message from a vmd file.

• Select the library from which to import the new message grammar, or browse for the VMD file from which to import from, and click Next.
• Select the type of message definition you want to import and click Next.

• Click Finish to insert the message definition in your Workspace.
