Mapping the PID Segment

The next step is to check which transformations you need to make to the PID segment. The following table shows the mappings for the incoming and outgoing messages:

The rest of the fields (from 20 onwards) in the SIU-S12 message do not appear in the ORM-O01 message. The ORM-O01 message that you are using only has 19 fields, although the SIU-S12 message has more.

To map the PID segment:

• Switch to the outgoing configuration.
• Right-click Tables in the Workspace, and select New > Table.
• Right-click the Table, and rename it PIDTable.
• Double-click Message Grammar. The Message Grammar window appears.
• Click and drag the PIDTable into the Table Grammar panel, as shown below.

• In the Table Grammar panel, click the ellipsis button under Grammar Root. The Grammar Root Selection window appears.
• Select PID (Patient Identification) as the grammar root, and click OK.
• Double-click the PIDTable in the Table Grammar panel. The Table Mapping window appears, as shown below.

• In the Table Mapping window, drag each field from the right pane to the left in the same order you want the columns to be organized. The column names are automatically generated.

When you are finished mapping the table for the outgoing configuration, you will end up with a table similar to the one below:

• Switch to the incoming configuration, and repeat the above steps.
• In the Transformation window, click the Transform button.

	You will notice that even though you mapped the date of the birth field, it does not show through in the output message, as shown below. The problem is that the field is in the wrong place in the incoming message. To fix this you must modify the incoming format of the PID segment to reflect the true location of the date of birth and map it accordingly.
