Outputting the Changes to a Separate File

The next step is to use the msgtransform tool to parse the same sample message file, but to output the results to a different file. You can then "diff" the output and easily see what has changed.

To output the changes to a separate file:

• Return to the Command Prompt window, and parse the sample message file using the msgtransform utility. Remember that you need to output the results to a different file. Therefore, you have to provide a different name for the output message log (e.g. output2.txt). For example:

C:\test>msgtransform --table msgtransform.vmd messages.txt output2.txt

• Examine the output2.txt file to see the differences. You will notice that the Sending Application field is listed as XYZ for each message.

Viewing the Differences in the Second Output File

The next step is to compare the changes using a visual file comparison tool.
