Setting the Maximum Length of a Field

	This section only explains the basic steps for setting the maximum length of a field. For a more detailed example, see Setting Chameleon Up to Perform Field Length Checks.

The maximum length of a field can only be specified on a field whose data type is a primitive data type. For example:

• Double;
• Integer;
• String; and
• Any defined Date Time formats.

To set the maximum length of the field:

• Under Composites in the Workspace, double-click the composite containing the field you want to set the max length for.

	In this example the ST (String) composite was chosen. However, the same steps apply when setting the maximum length for any other field whose data type is a primitive data type.

• Ensure that the Any Length check box is unchecked.
• Under Max, set the maximum length to the value you want.
• Click Chameleon > Options. The Options window appears.

• Click the Misc tab.
• Ensure that Strict Grammar Checking is checked. Chameleon will only perform field length checks and also check that required fields are present in messages when this option is turned on.

	The Max column will be uneditable for a field if the Data Type is not a primitive data type.
