Step 2 - Setting Up the VMD File

To set up the To Database destination component for this sample channel, you must use Chameleon to create a VMD (Visual Message Definition) file. This VMD file is a mapping file that describes:

• How to identify incoming HL7 messages;
• How to extract data from them; and
• Where to place the extracted data in your database.

This step of the tutorial provides an example of how you can use Chameleon to create a VMD file.

	Although this section gives a complete example of how to use Chameleon to set up a VMD file, it only shows you a fraction of the power provided by Chameleon to deal with incoming HL7 messages. To get a more complete picture of Chameleon's capabilities and how you can use them, see the Chameleon section of this manual.
