Step 3 - Performing HL7 <-> XML Translation With msgxml

To use the msgxml tool to perform the HL7 to XML translation and the XML back to HL7 translation:

• Open a command prompt window.
• Go to the directory that you stored the VMD file you are working with.
• Save either the HL7 message or the XML output in a text file.
• Type the following:

D:\test>msgxml --toxml exercise4.vmd before.txt xml.txt

where exercise4.vmd is the name of your VMD file and before.txt is your HL7 message. The xml.txt file is where your converted XML output is saved.

	Executing msgtransform without any arguments lists the flags that will be required for the XML translations.
