Using the Stubcode Generation Wizard

Chameleon can generate the skeleton of an HL7 interface program that will send, receive and process messages via TCP/IP. After messages, tables and mapping rules are defined in your VMD file, the application code can be generated using the Stubcode Generation Wizard.

	Iguana Users You can use the stubcode that Chameleon creates in your custom standalone application. The standalone application can then be used with the client executable channel components (From Client Executable and To Client Executable) to perform functions like parsing, transforming, and generating messages. Use the following guidelines, depending on what type of application you want to build : Parse/generate messages - Use either the dynamic or static interface. Translate to/from XML, or transform messages - Use the dynamic interface.   Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) Users Please note that VB.NET uses the C# core stubcode. To start the Stubcode Generation Wizard:

• Click Chameleon > Generate Stubcode. The Stubcode Generation window appears.

• Enter the prefix you want to use. The prefix is prepended to the start of all class names and files in the generated projects. This ensures that their names do not clash with other classes in your application. The default prefix is HL7.

• Select the language you want to generate your stubcode in.

	You should consult the language sections of this manual for specific information relating to your programming language.

• Select what type of project you want to generate:

Stubcode - Generate only the basic stubcode. Select this option when you want to overwrite your original stubcode. This option will not overwrite your existing server or client code.

Stubcode and Client Example - Generate a sample client along with the basic stubcode. Select this option when generating a client project and stubcode for the first time. If you have created or modified messages and/or tables, select the Stubcode option instead so your code will not be overwritten.

Stubcode and Server Example - Generate a sample server along with the basic stubcode. Select this option when generating a server project and stubcode for the first time. If you have created or modified messages and/or tables, select the Stubcode option instead so your code will not be overwritten.

	Be careful when using the Stubcode and Client Example and Stubcode and Server Example options. Do not select these options if you have already written some of your application as it will overwrite your existing code. Sometimes too much is expected from wizards. Nothing can replace a well-thought-out design and a thorough understanding of the problems you are trying to solve. Reading this manual is a good way to achieve this. The complete code generation option is not intended to do your work for you, but is simply intended to help give you a head start in your development. The wizard may produce an application that does not compile or run correctly. Do not be alarmed; simply correct the problems your compiler reports and continue your development.

• After selecting your options, click Generate to generate the stubcode.
