Validating a Platform/Compiler

Most customers can stop reading at this point. The following information is only useful in some circumstances for our support staff in troubleshooting issues with customer unix systems.

Unfortunately, some C++ compilers do not correctly implement exceptions for a shared library that Java requires for support. This has been a problem with the GNU compiler on the Solaris platform and on some Linux distributions. On those platforms, an exception results in a segmentation fault and core dump.
