Upgrading Iguana in Unix

	Important Attempting to upgrade without a valid maintenance agreement will cause your license to stop working. To avoid any interruptions, ensure you do the following prior to upgrading: If necessary, get your maintenance/support agreement up-to-date. For more information, see Checking the Maintenance Expiry Date in Iguana. If you need to renew your maintenance agreement, please contact a support representative by sending an email to support@interfaceware.com. Apply the updated registration code in Iguana. This updates your maintenance expiry date.

This section shows you how to upgrade Iguana using Linux commands. The commands may differ slightly between flavors of Unix. Before upgrading your system in your production environment, iNTERFACEWARE strongly recommends performing the upgrade on a test machine first.

Note that you must be using gcc compiler version 3.4 or above to install Iguana on a Linux machine.

To upgrade Iguana in Unix:

• Stop all running Iguana channels, and change each channels's configuration so that they do not start automatically.

• Back up your existing ChannelConfiguration.xml file from the Iguana installation directory. Ideally, this should be done periodically as a routine backup anyway. If you changed other files such as the autoack.vmd, autonack.vmd, ack_verify.vmd, and AdminConfiguration.xml files, back these up as well since their changes will be overwritten after you upgrade.

• Save a copy of the prior release in a temporary directory, just in case you want to revert back to it after performing the upgrade. You can obtain a copy of the previous release from: ftp://ftp.interfaceware.com/iguana/.

• Check the log key numbers in the Logs page for each channel, and note the last key number, date and time after you stopped the channel. This should be done before you perform an upgrade so you can verify that everything is running properly after upgrading.

• If you are installing Iguana on a Linux-based system, first find the gcc compiler version that your system is currently using, otherwise, skip to the next step. For example:

gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 3.4.6 (Gentoo 3.4.6-r2, ssp-3.4.6-1.0, pie-8.7.10)

The above command will return the version of the gcc compiler you are using, but may not work on all Unix-based systems.

• Download the latest Iguana version and applicable tar from the FTP site.

• Unpack the tarball on the machine that you want to run it on. The tarball is unpacked into a directory called iNTERFACEWARE-Iguana. For example:

tar -xvzf iguana_linux_gcc-3_4_4.tar.gz

• Go to the directory that the tarball unpacked into. For example:

cd iNTERFACEWARE-Iguana

• Verify that everything unpacked properly on your system by checking the contents of the applicable directory. For example, typing ls checks the contents of the directory:

• Run Iguana as an exe or daemon. To run Iguana as an exe or daemon, type the following:

Running Iguana as an Executable

./Iguana --run

Running Iguana as a Daemon

./Iguana_service

	Invalid Chameleon License Error You may receive an error message stating that the host machine does not have a valid Chameleon license after registering Iguana - please ignore the error. There was an issue in Iguana versions 3.2.155 and earlier that caused this error to be displayed before the registration could be loaded. This issue does not affect Iguana versions 3.3 and later. • Ensure Iguana is running, and manually start and check that your channels are running normally one at a time. If not, you will have to copy the backup files you created into the iNTERFACEWARE install directory.

• If any of your channels are supposed to start automatically, stop each channel in question and change its configuration accordingly.

• Verify that each channel that you changed functions as expected.

Congratulations, you have successfully upgraded Iguana. If you already purchased Iguana, please note that you do not have to register Iguana again after upgrading.
