Using the Message Browser

The next step is to use the Chameleon Message Browser to examine the sample message from the previous section.

To use the Message Browser:

• Open Chameleon. The Start Page window appears.

• From the Start Page window, click Empty Project. The Message Browser automatically appears. In the Browser, you will notice that the top pane contains the following message: "Paste HL7 message here and click Parse." When you create a new project, the Browser is always opened automatically so that it is consistently your starting point. This makes the VMD file creation process more efficient.

	The other project options in this window are examples. To learn more, see Opening an Example Project Using the HL7 Project Wizard. If the Start Page window is not visible, click the New icon on the toolbar to start a new project, and click the Browse icon to display the Message Browser.

• Copy and paste the sample message into the top pane of the Message Browser.
• Click the Parse button. The parsed version of the message appears in the bottom pane. A yellow panel appears, indicating that segments with red icons are unrecognized.
