Global biopharma leader in vaccines and innovative therapeutics
Pfizer, one of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical companies, operates two high-throughput Clinical Research Units (CRUs) in New Haven, Connecticut and Brussels, Belgium. These facilities conduct first-in-human clinical trials where speed, accuracy, and real-time access to data are critical. Since 2007, Pfizer has relied on Iguana to power the integration workflows that connect their internal systems and keep trial operations running smoothly.
At the heart of these workflows is Pfizer’s proprietary Phase 1 Management System (P1MS), developed specifically for their Phase 1 research programs. P1MS manages the full clinical data lifecycle — from electronic data capture during dosing and assessments, through to data aggregation and reporting. Iguana serves as the integration layer between P1MS and a network of laboratory and operational systems, ensuring timely and reliable data exchange across the CRUs.
Iguana routes and transforms both HL7 and CDA messages between P1MS and key systems, including:
These integrations keep patient demographics, lab results, vitals, and study data flowing automatically between systems — eliminating delays and manual handoffs. Whether it’s initiating a lab order, recording vitals during dosing, or aggregating data for reporting, Iguana ensures the right information reaches the right system at the right time.
Pfizer works closely with RM Solutions, the vendor responsible for P1MS, to develop and maintain interfaces that support these workflows. Iguana provides the flexibility to deploy and manage integrations across separate development, testing, and production environments, supporting a structured and reliable rollout process for new channels.
As Pfizer's research needs evolve, Iguana continues to provide the agility to onboard new data sources, integrate additional lab partners, and adapt to emerging requirements without disrupting ongoing trials. Its real-time interoperability ensures clinical teams have immediate access to accurate data, enabling faster decision-making and improved coordination across departments.
Today, Iguana plays a central role in Pfizer's early-phase research infrastructure — keeping systems connected, workflows streamlined, and teams equipped with the insights they need to bring tomorrow’s therapies one step closer to reality.
