DNS Server
One of the most vital components of a business's intellectual property today is its website URL.
That’s why I was so frustrated by GoDaddy’s TFA implementation. Their system made it possible for control of a key resource to end up with our system administrator rather than with me, the rightful owner. The authentication code was sent to his phone instead of mine, and the process to regain control was anything but straightforward.
Fortunately, I had a good relationship with him—an honorable man whom I had previously defended when a group of younger coworkers misunderstood his communication style. That trust made a world of difference.
But let me be clear: no CEO should ever allow an employee to have sole control over the company’s DNS records.
When I finally took over the account, I found a huge mess—a lot had been added over time, and almost nothing had ever been removed. It took a long time to clean it up.
This is a critical part of your brand. One day, I want to develop technology that will streamline requests from those I trust to modify my DNS, but still leave me in control.
