Biology is Now an Information Science

The days of biology being a field for the mathematically challenged are over. Biology is being transformed by our understanding of code, and artificial intelligence is shaping what is possible in this field.

It's exciting.

But.

It changes everything when a guy like me can make an mRNA vaccine to treat his beloved dog for cancer.

Spoiler alert: neither I nor Paul Conyngham have formal education in biology.

I have a BSc in Physics and then completed a first-class MSc degree in Economics.

Yes, I am one of those annoyingly smart people who can be a little challenging to understand. That’s why I need a site like this—so that ordinary folks have time to take a breath and see the bigger picture, which is, um… challenging.

The problem is, it's unlikely that I am unique in this regard, and I can imagine some of the implications.

There will be other people with both the capacity and the desire to perform their own “ethical corrections” to global society in a non-consensual way—which might not be everyone’s idea of a good solution.
