How to hide Files in Unix and Unix-like Operating Systems

One helpful convention in Unix and Unix-like operating systems, such as Linux, is the ability to put a dot (.) in front of a file name. By default, most operations treat files with this notation as invisible.

It's easy to find hidden files if you know what they are for, but it's essential to be aware that you're doing which is a helpful distinction to make, especially for computer users who know their way around and those who don't.

Is a helpful technique to stash away things you don't need everyone to see immediately. It's not really secure but it's better than leaving knifes out for your three year old to play with.
