Lids

Bins with lids that fit well are great for reducing the impact of pests.

I am trying this approach. For optimal recycling, it helps to have four bins for the following categories:

• Glass (and aluminum—although aluminum is hard to recycle here)
• Paper/Cardboard
• Plastic
• Non-recyclables, including meat containers

I'm testing two rubbish bins, including a black matte one, to see if it's easier to keep clean.

Larger containers that help to separate out the waste streams should result in less frequent trips to recycling.
